July 4th BBQ

Saturday, July 9th, 2011

BBQs remind me of the good old days at PDX.  We’d BBQ almost every weekend… sometimes multiple times in one weekend.  I love how BBQs bring people together… and outside.

Last weekend on July 4th, we BBQ’d with the family.  We honestly hadn’t BBQ’d at home since I was a kid.  I was really excited that we finally started making use of our great backyard again.  Hopefully this successful BBQ means more to come!

My brother was well prepared for this BBQ and bought delicious meat and skewers.

Kelvin decided this was a good time to get a facial.

The best photo I could get of my brother all day.  He was working that grill like a master.

Afui!

Me, enjoying the beautiful day.

My mom :)

My sister and her delicious homemade burger.

We waited outside to watch the fireworks from my house and saw the sun set.

Happy Birthday America!

Today, we visited Glacier Point. It is definitely well worth a visit… especially if you’ve hiked to the top of Half Dome. From Glacier Point, you can see a panoramic view of the valley floor, Nevada and Vernal falls, and the many granite rock peaks of Yosemite. The view was definitely a testament to our 16 mile hike from the valley floor to the top of Half Dome.

The whole crew.

My brother got really excited about the prospect of a BBQ at our cabin during our half dome hike, so the next day we bought a few brats and sausages and had a mini cook out. Despite my mom’s fear that we would attract bears with the smell of food, we didn’t attract one bear. In fact, I didn’t see any the entire trip.  Maybe that’s for the better!  During the whole trip I kept confusing what to do when I see a bear with what to do when I see a mountain lion.
